Uniforms at LCDC

At LCDC, we value the importance of presentation in class, and there are many benefits to having and wearing a uniform.

  • Wearing a uniform creates a sense of identity and belonging within the studio
  • Uniforms create a sense of teamwork, unity and equality
  • Dance uniforms are designed with your dancers' safety in mind. Loose fitting clothing, rigid fabrics and metal zippers for example, can limit your dancers ability to move freely, may be a hazard
  • Dance uniforms are also designed so that teachers can see the dancers posture and alignment to ensure correct technique and provide corrections

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, uniforms are mandatory at LCDC. We value the importance of presentation in class, and there are many benefits to having and wearing a uniform, such as dancers physical safety and ability to move freely within class, so teachers can see the dancers posture and alignment to ensure correct technique, to give students a sense of belonging within the studio and to create a sense of teamwork, unity, and equality between the students.

  • Most uniform items can be purchased at the LCDC Shop, which is open on Mondays 4-6pm and Saturdays 9-12:30pm, or through our online store and items will be handed to students at their next class. LCDC does not keep large quantities of items on hand, so items may need to be ordered and delivery times will depend on the supplier’s stock levels.

LCDC does not sell any dance shoes, these must be purchased through Attitude Australia or Bloch. Our preferred brand of shoes for Ballet and Jazz are MDM, which can be purchased at Attitude Australia.

LCDC does have some second-hand shoes available, though sizes are limited. Fittings for second-hand shoes can be done during LCDC store hours.

  • MDM ballet shoes really are the best “ballet flats” on the market as they offer support and shock absorption that other brands don’t have. Students working at exam level should be taking the best care of their legs and feet possible, which is why we recommend and prefer MDM shoes. If MDM shoes aren’t suitable for your dancer because of improper fit or stock availability, there are alternative brands that will suffice.

  • Yes, all students must have their hair in a proper, secure ballet bun for ballet classes, with their hair pulled back off the face. This limits distractions when students are learning and dancing, and enables them to turn, twirl and jump without their hair getting in their face.

For other styles of dance, a neat ponytail or bun is required for classes.

  • Dance shoes of all kids must not be worn outside, as dirt and debris can get into the shoes and cause damage to the structure of the shoe. Also, this dirt and debris can scratch, mark and cause severe damage to our specialised dance floor.
