Lyrical dance is fusion of elements of ballet and jazz. Lyrical is typically a more fluid and free style of dance that aims to use the lyrics and songs as a stepping stone for expression.
Lyrical is a modern style of dance that has risen to popularity with the exposure to tv shows like ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ It’s a marriage of ballet and jazz that is performed to music with lyrics. The focus of lyrical dance is to take inspiration from the lyrics in a song and portray them through movement and expression.
From Lyrical 2 and up, more emotions and expressions are explored through the lyrics in songs – from positive and uplifting songs, through to sadness, melancholy and heartbreak. The content and emotions always kept age appropriate.
Lyrical is a wonderful style of dance for students who love music and love to express themselves through movement.
