LCDC is proud to offer select students from Intermediate and above to join our Day School program, designed for dedicated and talented classical ballet students to reach their full potential.
LCDC’s Day School program has been instrumental in the success of many of our students, and as the students reach more advanced levels they find that their peers from interstate are often full-time dance students dancing up 30-40 hours per week. Whilst LCDC does not feel that this is necessary for a successful career in dance our day school program does help bridge the gap.
Most of the academic schools attended by students are very supportive of the student’s commitment to their dance studies and many make special compensations for their students, including replacing PE with their dance studies or dropping a subject to give them extra time for classes and or study. We are happy to liaise with schools to facilitate attendance in our Day School program.
Day School is highly recommended for those also considering pursuing a career as a teacher or choreographer as it is equally important for those students to have as much training and exposure to classes and opportunities as those with ambitions and potential to have careers as performers.
Tuesday Day School
Our Tuesday Day School (available for students Intermediate Ballet and above) consist of a Contemporary and Classical Open Class. For the Contemporary portion of the class, we rotate through 1-2 guest teachers per term. As Contemporary is such a diverse style and each dancer brings their own style to the table, this is a wonderful opportunity for our more serious students to develop and expand on their own Contemporary style.
The Classical portion of the class is run by our director, Lisa Clark and when available, Samantha Leeman who is an RAD Examiner and a phenomenal coach for serious dance students. This class provides students with the opportunity to work at a much more intense level than their regular dance classes. This class runs from 1:30-3:30pm and allows the students to experience classes working at a faster pace, with an intense focus on technique, preparing them for intensive classes and workshops outside of LCDC.
