Contemporary dance almost defies description because it can be balletic or wholly abstract, jazz-influenced or lyrical, structured or unconventional.
Contemporary dance is an ever-evolving genre originating in the mid-twentieth century that borrowed and rejected certain traditions of classical ballet, modern dance, and jazz.
It is a technical form of dance with a focus on floor work, contract/release, fall/recovery, freedom, and improvisation practices.
The contemporary classes we offer are a mixture of technique, improvisation, creative/choreographic tasking, and collaborative learning suited to both technical dancers and recreational dancers.
Our contemporary teachers are professional dance artists with national and international experience and insight into this ever-changing and evolving style of dance.
At LCDC, contemporary classes are combined or multiple grades per class.
*Please note that these are guidelines only. Teachers will assess students and recommend the appropriate grade class for them on an individual basis, taking into account their maturity, ability to develop the work etc.
An annual enrolment fee of $35 applies to all students. A 10% discount applies to families with multiple students. Costumes, special events and exam classes are payable separately. If vacancies allow, students are welcome to enrol mid-term and pro-rated from week 3 onwards.
