‘Once Upon a Ballet’ course is specifically designed to develop foundation dance techniques and build skills essential for your child’s early development.
A fun and imaginative ballet curriculum designed specifically for preschoolers.
Once Upon A Ballet is a unique, child-centred approach to teaching dance that is based strongly in child development research. We meet our littlest dancers in their world – a world filled with stories, magic and make-believe.
When children experience the magic of dance early in the developmental years, they build a foundation of fundamental skills that carry them through life. Our focus in all our preschool classes to encourage a love of music and movement as well as basic dance technique to start them on their dance journey.
Our little dancers cover a fairytale story over the course of 3-5 weeks (depending on the length of a term). Each class will tie different elements of the fairytale into their dance training – such as walking gently and gracefully like Cinderella in her glass slippers, exploring different movements of animals with Snow White, and skipping through the woods like Sleeping Beauty.
Ballet classes will stretch a child’s imagination as they dance the roles of different characters in ballet class.
Yes, even young children can be stressed. Dance boosts endorphins and has a meditative quality. It’s even been called “moving meditation”!
Ensure a safe learning and teaching environment that complies with national safe dance practices.
Ballet keeps children moving, which is important and beneficial to the growth and development of their bodies.
Dancing doesn’t just exercise the body; it also exercises the brain! And in ballet class, we also listen to classical music, also boosting brainpower.
Children get to act out roles as they are dancing. Who doesn’t want to be a fairy or a princess?
At LCDC, we have a uniform for all our dancers, including preschoolers. Having a uniform helps dancers associate putting on a uniform with being ready for class, and it also ensures that all students are equal in the studio.
Our uniform for preschoolers is a pale pink leotard, a pink soft tulle skirt, ballet tights or socks and ballet shoes. All items except for ballet shoes can be purchased at our uniform shop at LCDC or through our online store. (We’ll need a link here).
Dancers trialling classes are welcome to wear whatever they like, just make sure it’s comfortable and not restrictive (jeans etc), and bare feet are best.
Absolutely! We accept new enrolments for Once Upon A Ballet at any time throughout the year, with the exception of Term 4 where we close enrolments around Week 3.
New enrolments will have a pro-rata applied to term fees after Week 2 of each term.
Not at all! Due to the structure of our Once Upon A Ballet classes, students will go over fundamental steps and technique building exercises multiple times with new stories to really help dancers grasp the basics.
First Steps is for students aged 3-4 years old. We recommend this class for students within this age group who are starting ballet for the first time or who are still a full year away from starting Kindergarten.
Discovering Dance is for students aged 4-5 who have already done First Steps, and/or are starting Kindergarten the following calendar year.
We like to keep students with the age group they will be going to Primary School with as much as possible. This helps build friendships and familiarity with one age group, and ensures they are in the correct level if they continue to dance at LCDC for years to come.
