Nope – no prerequisites. Lyrical is a combination of ballet and jazz though, so all students in lyrical e would benefit from attending a dance class (ballet or jazz recommended) to compliment their other skills.
Lyrical is a modern style of dance that has risen to popularity with the exposure to tv shows like ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ It’s a marriage of ballet and jazz that is performed to music with lyrics. The focus of lyrical dance is to take inspiration from the lyrics in a song and portray them through movement and expression.
At Junior Level lyrical, teachers focus on utilising dreamy, happy, positive and uplifting songs for students to express themselves through, always staying age appropriate. As students get older, they are able to explore more emotion and expression through different songs.
Lyrical is a wonderful style of dance for students who love music and love to express themselves through movement.
At LCDC, lyrical only becomes available to students in Grade 1 Ballet or subsequent classes. Lyrical 1 is our junior lyrical class which combines Grade 1 & Grade 2 students (Year 2 & 3 at school).
An annual enrolment fee of $35 applies to all students. A 10% discount applies to families with multiple students. Costumes, special events and exam classes are payable separately. If vacancies allow, students are welcome to enrol mid-term and pro-rated from week 3 onwards.

Unfortunately, we only offer one lyrical class per level each week.
We don’t offer examinations or assessments for any age group of Lyrical. Our lyrical classes focus more on the joy of dance and expression rather than technique.
